Upward Bound
Our lab hosted students from
the Upward Bound program
for some hands-on experiments. The students made gold
nanoparticles via the Turkevich method and analyzed their
samples by UV-vis spectroscopy. They learned how gold
nanoparticle optical properties change with changing particle
size as we added NaCl to the solution to initiate nanoparticle
aggregation.

We participated in the Nano/Bio Interface Center's annual NanoDay@Penn by leading high school students on lab and facility tours and by doing gold nanoparticle demos.
